MASSACHUSETTS HOUSING & SHELTER ALLIANCE (MHSA) WINS 2018 HEARST HEALTH PRIZE FOR EXCELLENCE IN POPULATION HEALTH
MHSA’s Home & Healthy for Good (HHG) program removes barriers to housing and recognizes housing as a social determinant of health
BOSTON – The Massachusetts Housing & Shelter Alliance (MHSA) has been selected as the winner of the 2018 Hearst Health Prize for Excellence in Population Health for MHSA’s Home & Healthy for Good (HHG) program. The Hearst Health Prize, in partnership with Jefferson College of Population Health, is given in recognition of an individual’s or organization’s outstanding achievement in managing or improving health in the U.S. MHSA was one of three finalists chosen for the award.
The announcement was made this morning in Philadelphia at the 18th annual Population Health Colloquium. “Your award validates a movement nationwide to house some of the poorest and most disabled in our midst, and the concept that evidence-based and outcome-based interventions can and do work, especially when organizations work together with a common mission,” said Joe Finn, President & Executive Director of MHSA.
HHG is a permanent supportive housing program addressing chronic homelessness and the overutilization of acute and emergency care by removing barriers to housing. Individuals are provided with their own home where they can address personal challenges, find employment, and achieve other health and life goals.
