MASSACHUSETTS HOUSING & SHELTER ALLIANCE TO HONOR HIGHLAND STREET FOUNDATION FOR DEDICATION TO SERVING VETERANS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
MHSA will present Highland Street Foundation with the “Cornerstone Award” at the 2019 MHSA Annual Meeting on December 12
BOSTON, Mass. – The Massachusetts Housing & Shelter Alliance (MHSA) announced today that it will honor the Highland Street Foundation for its longstanding support of permanent supportive housing and its dedication to supporting Veterans experiencing homelessness. The Highland Street Foundation will receive the “Cornerstone Award” at the 2019 MHSA Annual Meeting, which will be held on December 12 at the Boston College Club, 100 Federal Street, Boston.
“The 2019 Cornerstone Award is presented to the Highland Street Foundation for their continuous support of the key initiatives of MHSA: supportive housing, low-barrier services and recognition of the dignity of the homeless poor,” said MHSA President & Executive Director, Joe Finn. “They are especially commended for their work in helping to house and serve homeless Veterans throughout Greater Boston. Their efforts have made them leaders in innovative approaches to end homelessness for Veterans and for everyone in need.”
“We are honored and quite humbled to receive this recognition from MHSA, the Commonwealth’s foremost leader in ending homelessness,” said Blake Jordan, Executive Director of the Highland Street Foundation. “Joe and his team work tirelessly to create innovative solutions to complicated housing issues, and it is a pleasure to partner with them to support their efforts.”
The Highland Street Foundation is committed to addressing the most pressing needs and concerns for children and families in Massachusetts and California, including access and opportunities in education, housing, mentorship, health care, environment, and the arts.
Mayor Martin J. Walsh will present the award to the Highland Street Foundation. “No person should have to experience homelessness, especially not a Veteran who bravely served our country. Working together with nonprofits, we will continue to tackle this issue and make sure everyone has a place to call home,” said Mayor Walsh. “Support for Veterans is just one pillar of assistance that the Highland Street Foundation provides to help Boston’s homeless population. I congratulate the foundation on receiving the much deserved Cornerstone Award.”
The 2019 MHSA Annual Meeting will also honor State Senator Paul R. Feeney (D – Bristol & Norfolk) for his work as a champion for permanent supportive housing for people experiencing long-term homelessness who have complex physical and behavioral health needs. MHSA will also recognize a direct care worker from a MHSA member agency.
