Development and Communications Specialist
The Development and Communications Specialist has a significant impact on expanding public awareness of the mission of Abby’s House and the impact made in the lives of homeless and low-income women and children with diverse backgrounds and experiences. The Development and Communications Specialist should possess an entrepreneur’s mindset, coupled with skills in areas of traditional fundraising, including corporate sponsorships, events, individual giving, and annual fund. The Development and Communications Specialist will create and execute, in consultation with Abby’s House leadership, a fundraising-focused communications strategy that ensures organizational and philanthropic goals are successfully achieved. This position is responsible for every aspect of Abby’s House communications, marketing, and public relations efforts, including relaying the impact our community has in the lives of those we serve and engaging both new and existing donors through virtual and in-person group presentations, printed materials, social media, agency website, and the media. This is a highly collaborative position and requires the ability to work effectively with a multi-racial, multi-cultural community of staff, donors, Board members, volunteers, partners, residents and shelter guests. The Development and Communications Specialist is a key and active member of the Development Team and will collaborate regularly with the Director of Development in a collaborative and team-based approach.

The Shelter Advocate works directly with low-income women and children from diverse backgrounds who are experiencing homelessness and are seeking shelter or housing. The Shelter Advocate welcomes women who come through our doors to identify their options and proactively seeks housing opportunities and manages housing inventory lists for the organization. Upon a woman’s entry into shelter, the Shelter Advocate supports the Shelter Manager’s work with guests on their individualized service plans and manages the shelter environment. This position is a full-time, exempt position, Tuesday through Saturday (or Monday through Friday) from 10:30 am – 6:00 pm (or 10:00 am – 5:30 pm). The Shelter Advocate will participate in an on-call coverage rotation that may include occasional emergency overnight coverage at the shelter. The Shelter Advocate reports to the Shelter Manager.
