On March 3, 2021, MHSA hosted “Housing: The Only Thing to Really End Homelessness,” a virtual discussion with special guest Dr. Sam Tsemberis, CEO of the Pathways Housing First Institute.
Featuring Dr. Tsemberis, MHSA President & Executive Director Joe Finn, and MHSA Senior Director of Policy & Programs Joyce Tavon, the discussion covered a range of issues related to Housing First, from the implementation of Housing First in Finland to the challenges we continue to face in ending homelessness in the United States. About Sam Tsemberis, Ph.D.
Sam Tsemberis is a clinical-community psychologist who originated the “Housing First” model based on the belief that housing is a basic human right. Currently serves as CEO of Pathways Housing First Institute and Clinical Associate Professor, UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences. Dr. Tsemberis consults on programs addressing homelessness, mental illness, and addiction across the US and Canada, the EU, Australia, and New Zealand. He has published numerous articles, book chapters, and two books on these topics and his work has been recognized by the National Alliance to End Homelessness, American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, and the Lieutenant Governor of Canada.
