MHSA Member Agency Phillips Brooks House Association's Y2Y Harvard Square Seeks Part-Time Youth Worker

MHSA member agency Phillips Brooks House Association's (PBHA) Y2Y Harvard Square (Y2Y), a student-run overnight shelter, is seeking a part-time Youth Worker to welcome guests and support shelter operations 2-3 nights per week. The position will work two different categories of shifts: security shifts and support shifts. During the security shifts, the youth worker will work mainly in the shelter’s mezzanine space, asking basic intake questions, gauging the safety of guests, checking for contraband (weapons, drugs, etc.), and creating a comfortable shelter environment. During the support shift, the youth worker will work directly with the shelter’s guests and staff, leveraging their diverse experiences and identities to work with the shelter’s young guests, creating an environment of physical, mental, and emotional safety.

In both roles, the youth worker may be asked to provide guidance and mentoring to the student staff during conflicts, or other situations. Youth workers will hold at least one of each shift per week. Working hours will be roughly 6:30 pm- 11:30 pm. In addition, youth workers will attend occasional staff meetings, trainings before the shelter opens, and weekly supervision meetings.

Please submit a resume and cover letter, detailing why you are qualified for and interested in the Youth Worker position, to sarah@y2yharvardsquare.org by May 26th, including “Youth Worker” in the subject line.
